I am a journalist and author whose writing has gradually found a space where reportage meets storytelling. Working in English, I have always tried to bring literary depth, cultural sensitivity, and a strong human focus into my work, allowing stories to breathe beyond the rigidity of news.
Over more than four decades in journalism, including my role as Executive Editor at the Khaleej Times in the UAE, I have been fortunate to witness and interpret two dynamic regions — Asia’s financial nerve centre and the Middle East’s commercial rise. My years with The Business Times in Singapore and in the UAE have shaped my understanding of economics, geopolitics, and the shifting currents that connect these regions.
My core strengths lie in financial and economic journalism, geopolitical analysis of the Asia–Middle East corridor, and long-form opinion writing. But beyond these domains, what has driven me most is the urge to tell stories that matter — stories that often lie beneath the surface of headlines.
I began my journey in Mumbai after leaving my home state to escape political violence, carrying with me a deep desire to capture real-life experiences and give voice to ordinary people. Over time, my columns evolved into spaces where I could explore not just events, but the emotions and social undercurrents behind them — themes such as migration, identity, nostalgia, and the changing values of our times.
As a writer, I have never been content with merely presenting facts. I prefer to frame them within lived experiences, often using humour, irony, and reflection. Many of my columns read like short stories, where observation blends with insight, helping readers connect personally with complex realities without losing their nuance.
Alongside journalism, my work as an author allows me to delve deeper into these themes. My books grow out of real-life encounters and are shaped by questions of displacement, belonging, and cultural identity. What I strive for, above all, is to humanise journalism — to treat every story not just as information, but as a lived experience shaped by memory, emotion, and context.
I believe journalism should be human-centered, empathetic, and ethically responsible, focusing on ordinary lives rather than sensationalism; my writing blends truth with emotional depth, draws from cultural and spiritual roots, and uses simple, clear language to make ideas accessible, ultimately aiming not just to inform but to inspire reflection and deeper understanding of life.
